Heels!

It’s been quite a while since I was able to wear a real heel.  The last time I remember wearing one was about six months ago, and I was subluxing that toe I broke a while back when I wore them.  It wasn’t even a crazy heel or anything.  Those are my favorite heels, and it has killed me to sit idly by and watch them get no use.  I had to not wear any heels for six months though, in the hopes that the sublux would “set” right and with luck it won’t happen again.  (Though, with my Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a sublux eventually is quite likely.)

One thing we got to do yesterday which was awesome to me was to work on heels again.  Master Pravus chose my clear heels for me to practice in, because (he reasoned) they are far steeper than the heel on the boots he wants me to wear to Vegas later this month so if I got used to wearing them it would make the other ones a cake walk.  I skittered up the stairs to get the heels and he put them on me before I even got back down.

“Do you think you can handle the stairs?” He asked me.

“I don’t know.  Let’s find out!” I declared enthusiastically.

There is a railing coming down the stairs from the upstairs to the downstairs in our place, so I had the railing to hold onto, and I also had Master Pravus hand.  I got down the stairs far easier than I thought I would.  I mean, I haven’t worn heels in a while, and those are a rather thin heel.  I generally wear a chunkier heel  (I think they are sexier.  I know I am crazy but I like the big, stompy boots, shoes and heels.) but I managed far better than we both thought I might.

Downstairs Master Pravus held my hand and he had me practice simple things first: walking in a straight line, standing, etc.  He had me do some turns and walking in a circle too.  I wanted to keep practicing but he was worried about over stressing my joint on the first day, so we stopped.  We have plans to do much more to get my foot ready for Vegas.  Right now it is far too soon to practice outside the house (and truthfully, the snow is so thick where we live right now that I am not leaving the house without my clunky snow boots until it is a bit better, as per Master Pravus’ orders anyway).  It feels nice to be making progress on this though.  I miss wearing heels out on everyday errands here and there.  Every errand starts with the first step though, eh?
